Just DAYS Away and NEWS!

The Auction will start in just a few days and there is news on Brandon's adoption.  His family got his USCIS approval and his Dossier has been apostilled......  That means it is ready to head off to his country and be translated.....Then it will be submitted to the authorities in his country and wait for a travel date for his family to go and tell him that he has a family that loves him!  His family will be the first family to go into the new group home that took the children away from the orphanage......Start praying now!

Pray for this auction to be a huge success and for the family to be as close to fully funded and possible when this is over.  Pray that Brandon's brother Reed's health will hold out and he will be able to remain as healthy as possible while waiting to come home.  Pray that the children in the group home will find some way to be safe.....  PRAY.....

If you have any items to donate to the auction that starts on April 1st, you can email pictures and descriptions to me at redeeminghiddentreasures@gmail.com

We'll be ready to roll in just a short while so stay tuned!  I have a special surprise for this auction that won't always be possible, but there is a "Spring" surprise for this auction that isn't mailable.....  Let's just say that pickup is required for a certain item in this auction that a lucky bidder can choose to take home!  You won't want to miss the pictures of this cuddly cutie!!!!  STAY TUNED!!

Waiting with No Redemption in Sight - Sabrina

Brandon has a family....We are working on his ransom money that his family will use to pay the cost of his redemption......

Right now there are three children that are waiting in the orphanage we all know so well, but they do NOT have families on the way yet.  During the little while as we wait for the auction to begin I am going to take the time to introduce you to the children who are waiting.....

First up is Sabrina....  She is the youngest of the waiting children there.  Her eyes haunt me.  They beg to be seen and rescued.  She is only 2 years old and could be gotten out at such a young age and rescued from the horrors that so many of the other children faced so many years of....but first someone has to step forward for her!

Sabrina has CP.  She is able to sit up, move her arms and legs, reach for things, and roll a ball.  I keep imagining what she would look like with a bow and a dress....I imagine her with her hair grown out....  See it is hard to imagine for most, but I see children and then imagine the difference that would come if they were LOVED.  I've seen the difference that LOVE MAKES.

Sabrina needs to see that difference.  Go down a few posts and see the difference it made to my children....  In just a few months Charity looked like a different child.  She had a glow and sparkle to her.  Wouldn't you love to see Sabrina have a glow and sparkle to her????

Would you give this sweet baby girl a chance to be loved and to be a DAUGHTER instead of an orphan?  If you can't do it, then share her....Share her until the whole world sees her!  For more info on Sabrina email Shelley at shele337@gmail.com

*Don't forget that the Breaking Free Brandon Auction starts on April 1st and we are still looking for donations to make it a success.  You can email me pictures and descriptions of items at redeeminghiddentreasures@gmail.com for that auction!

Our April Family is......

BRANDON'S FAMILY!!!

Here's what you need to know first of all about Brandon.  Brandon is an amazing little boy that a good friend of mine recently met while he was at the Pleven orphanage.  He had improved so much and was coming alive with the recent changes at the orphanage since the old director had been out for several years now.  Things there are still NOT GOOD at the orphanage...not good by any standards and have so far to come to even be good by normal orphanage standards.... BUT they were improving SO much above where they were when the old director was there and when my first child first left there even 2 1/2 years go.

Brandon is 10 years old and has CP.
You can read more about him here:
http://reecesrainbow.org/74792/brandon-11-44

THEN....well then....HORRIBLE NEWS CAME....  News that brought all of us to our knees begging for mercy.  We learned that the old director's friend (the one who actually used to be in charge of finances of the orphanage and watched her embezzle the money meant to feed our children, but instead was stolen while they starved) had been allowed to gain control of a new group home starting up and she had requested the older children be put under her charge.  She hired back the fired staff members...Those fired for ABUSE.....(Just as she had hired back the old director when she was interim director of the orphanage!).....We emailed the US Embassy....We raised our voices....We couldn't stop them from taking 11 of the children....Brandon was one of the children that they took!

Only two of those children are adoptable...Brandon is ONE of those children!  He did not have a family at that time....

HE HAS A FAMILY NOW!

This is the Thorntons and their two adult children that still live at home.
They also have two adult sons who live on their own and one grandson who they adore.
You can read more about their family here:  http://reecesrainbow.org/80351/sponsorthornton

The Thornton Family were already in process to bring home Reed, who has special needs as well.  They are no stranger to this country or to Pleven orphanage.  This family saw Brandon's story when I posted about him on Facebook.  They are actually friends of mine who both went on my first pickup trip to help bring my children back to the US, since my husband was at home with our other children and Keith was at risk of refeeding syndrome and she is a Registered Nurse.  She also went on my second adoption to help, because of her medical background and Matthew's needs.  Both times they saw and lived the shock of Pleven.  Both times they knew God had a plan for them....When Reed needed a family comfortable with his medical needs, they saw him and were in tears knowing he was theirs, but God did the same when they saw Brandon and realized that their son was being sent back to his abusers....

This is Reed that the Thornton's are also adopting.
He is 4 years old and had Spina Bifida, CP, and Hydrocephalus.
You can read more about him here: http://reecesrainbow.org/52564/reed

That is where Brandon is right now.  Brandon is in the hands of his abusers.  This auction is going to put them so very close to being fully funded, since they as of today lack $3,700 from being fully funded!!!!  They are homestudy ready already and their USCIS approval should be back I would hope by the time the auction kicks off.  As soon as it arrives their dossier is ready to head on over to Brandon's country.

So, start looking around...Do you have gift cards, jewelry, books, quilts, or anything of worth that could help us to redeem Brandon?  He is sitting right now in a group home run by the same Pleven workers that abused and starved him....  This is our chance to get the first older child out of their hands!   Email me donations for the auction at redeeminghiddentreasures@gmail.com  There are links on the side that explain better how the auction works.  It will run April 1st through 7th.

Brandon is counting on us all!  I am pretty sure that his smile is being extinguished as we speak.....

An Introduction, An Update, and Passionate Start Back

Hello everyone!  I am so excited to get Hidden Treasures back rolling again.  This auction has been a huge part of the story of many of our Pleven children coming home and that includes our family.  I thought I'd start off by introducing myself for those who may not have followed our Pleven Stories and then a little update on our story for those who did (I hope to have updates on many more of the children who you all helped to bring home in the Child Updates Section for you very soon!).

We are the Unroe Family and we have brought home four wonderful blessings from Pleven.  First off was Keith.  He came home as part of our first international adoption..  He was right around 12 pounds at pickup, even though he was 5 years old.  He has Down Syndrome and as a result they had kept him in an isolation room there for  2 1/2 years.  Our sweet boy was quick to grow and overcome obstacles once home though.  He is doing amazing and has now been home longer than he was in that isolation room.  He came home in July of 2012, as a part of our adoption of 5 children with Down Syndrome.  He amazes us daily with his zest for life.  Keith lost his hearing while at Pleven due to untreated ear infections.  He will go this next week to get his hearing aide for one ear and then will get a Cochlear Implant for the other ear later on Lord willing as things progress.  He has gone from a child who couldn't sit up to a child who can climb a ladder and go down a slide.  He's AMAZING!

This was one of the pictures we received prior to meeting Keith.
You can see the marks on his wrists from being tied to the crib.
The picture to the left is the day after coming home wearing 3/6 months size clothes in an infant swing.
The picture on the right is at Easter wearing a 3t/4t after 21 months home.
This is Keith in February being his happy and amazing self.

These last two pictures were taken in February at Great Wolf Lodge after one of his hearing appointments, because I always take him there to stay as a treat for tolerating the hospital.

After coming home God made it clear that we were heading back.  We weren't sure who at first, but then He made it clear that we were headed back for Matthew, Johnathan, and Charity.  They arrived home in November of 2013 and were all three from Pleven. Even in country it was apparent how much long term damage was done as Charity and Matthew had drug withdrawals that ended up lasting for weeks.  Johnathan had been hit in the head so hard that his skull had been broken in the back, so that he now and a huge hole in the back of his skull that was not there during my earlier trip in June.  Johnathan also seemed to be worse than when I had visited him before and the nurse that traveled with me and I were unable to determine if that was due to the hit to the head or worsening hydrocephalus.  None of the children knew how to drink anything and Charity had no idea how to eat anything other than it being shoved in forced style.  The same was true of Matthew....He ended up needed syringes.

Matthew was listed as "Thad" and had been beaten into a coma by his birthfather at 4 years old (he's 11 years old now) and then left to lay until he had contracted up terribly....  Once home we were able to help to ease that discomfort by working to bring his legs down into a more natural position, though it was determined they couldn't be brought all the way to straight bc after so long in that position he didn't have enough skin to cover straightening him at the knee, even if he were to have surgery.  His teeth were fixed since they were rotted out below gum level and horribly painful.  It has turned out that his skull was never cleaned out after the beating and it is too late to clean it out without causing a new bleed.  Much of his screaming and discomfort is due to pressure in his head.  All we can do now is work to keep him comfortable and the abuse and neglect he suffered for so long will cost us our son and him his life.

This kind of self explains  itself  with the side by side.

Our sweet Matthew!
Johnathan  (previously listed as Carson) learned how to drink from a spoon and then a cup.  He quickly learned how to eat all varieties of food.  His delays in those areas were purely due to lack of opportunity.  His walking improved as well and he learned to climb things once allowed outside and with the availability of the slide and climber we have in the house.  Neurologically he did receive shunt, but not a valve.  Valves are more expensive....  Valves regulate how much fluid drains though.  This means that he went from too much fluid in his head to his head overdrained and his brain shrunk up.  So I have a son whose head grew too big before he was treated (his head was bigger than mine when he came home at 7), but had too little pressure and fluid, so his brain is pretty much scarred in an abnormal shape and shrunken.  He is doing amazing though and is improving so much each day.  He can even sing Jingle Bells and Happy Birthday pretty well! Pleven will not win!

This one kid of explains itself again!

Johnathan at Christmas looking so grown up.

Charity (previously listed as Presley) is gorgeous!  She came home at 4 so feral from her years drugged in a crib that she bit herself and me.  She was so used to no human contact that she didn't know what to do with it.  We worked through the drug withdrawals.  She learned that it was ok to be on the floor and moving about.  She learned to crawl around.  We saw a neurologist who said that unlike we were told, she doesn't have a cyst in her brain, but instead the top layer of her cerebellum is missing.  They called to tell us that she probably wouldn't walk bc of balance issues.  Funny thing is that she had already started walking between her visit and the call (one of the benefits of a large family)!  She still has trouble with textures, but has learned to drink from a sippy cup.  We are determined that she will overcome a little more of what they did to her each day.

Here is another self explanatory one!

Charity has grown up so much and is so giggly now!

As you can see from the difference in our children, and the loss they suffered during their time there...and what Matthew is suffering and we are to suffer yet with him, or more so will suffer without him....  Time is of the essence when it comes to children at Pleven and I, as well as several other mothers of children from that place, feel very passionate about the children still stuck.  CHILDREN NEED OUT.  Several children have recently had families step up.  A few children still need families to step up.  It is my greatest desire to help these children and families.  I'm asking you all to rally as you have in the past to do so.

I will be coming to you soon with their stories...With more updates on the children you have already helped....AND with our next child and family whose auction will run from April 1st through the 7th.  You can reach me at redeeminghiddentreasures@gmail.com with donations or questions.  Thank you so much for all you have done to make this a success in the past and will continue to do to make it a success in the future!

Redeeming Hidden Treasures

I have good news!  After months of hiatus, Hidden Treasures will soon be up and running again.  My circumstances still will not allow me to coordinate the endeavor, but others are stepping up to take the lead.  I will be around as a participant in future auctions, and am eager for them to begin.  Of course, the most fantastic news is that there is a need for more auctions!  More precious kiddos from Pleven are finding homes.  This makes my heart sing!

Hidden Treasures is now in the capable hands of one of our adoptive moms, Amanda Unroe.   Amanda's family is well-known to many of you.  She is mom to four precious Pleven treasures.  She is already working behind the scenes to get everything ready for a new auction.

I want to encourage all of our past donors to please consider participating again.  An email will go out soon to our mailing list from a new email address.  Please be expecting to hear from
redeeminghiddentreasures@ gmail.com very soon!

Love and Prayers, Amy

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  Ephesians 1:3

What's Next?

I'm sure you've been wondering what our future together looks like.  We've been working to figure that out for the past few weeks.  As of mid-May there are no new families in-process to adopt from Pleven.  This is the first time in 2 1/2 years that this has happened.  The good in this is that there are fewer waiting children than there once were, Praise Jesus!  The bad is that there are 4 precious children whose files are currently available.  No families are pursuing those children at this time.

So, here is the plan.  We are praying for there to be a need for a November auction.  This will give me time to take care of some responsibilities that I have over the Summer, as well as lining us up for a great time of year for an auction, right before Christmas!  Please help us pray for families to come forward for the four children who are currently available for adoption.  I do not have details on these little ones, but I would recommend keeping an eye on http://theblessingofverity.com/ for updates.

Again, thank you so much for your consistent, unwavering support of our efforts to help these beautiful children come home to the families that they need.  Please help us pray that families will continue to respond to God's call.  And, help us pray that every single child that is made available for adoption will be redeemed into a loving family.  They matter, each and every one of them.

Love and Blessings,
Amy Rainey
